Supporting the fashion industry with a wide array of materials
procured from around the world
Clothes use buttons and zippers, badges and emblems, and any number of other parts. Shimada Shoji provides secondary materials like those to apparel manufacturers, focusing on high-quality men’s clothing, sportswear and casual lines. Having more than 1,000 suppliers within and outside Japan, and handling hundreds of thousands of items allows you to “ask Shimada—it has everything!” Moreover, with the experience and results cultivated over 130 years, we have the knowledge and the ability to select secondary materials with the necessary functions according to the use and situation—a powerful tool.
Trade fairs are where buyers and people from the apparel industry from all over the world come to get a good look at trends and the latest technologies. The number of exhibits and participants is on an enormous scale, and visitors can approach and hold business discussions with vendors speedily and efficiently. Shimada Shoji started exhibiting at these kinds of trade fairs in other countries ahead of its rivals.
By continuing to develop new materials and disseminating information, and by keeping up with the latest trends, we have steadily made the Shimada brand a well-known name outside as well as inside Japan.
By proactively going to observe, instead of just exhibiting, and by constantly absorbing trends from around the world, we can improve our product development and capacity to make proposals in business. In Japan as well, we hold our own annual exhibition called Hi-G STOFF, and propose products in line with the theme for each year.

Shanghai | September 27 to 29, 2018
This is one of the largest and most comprehensive apparel fabric and accessories trade fairs in the world. Shimada Shoji began taking part in Intertextile SHANGHAI in 2007. This time, in celebration of our 130th anniversary, we showed a short movie and used traditional Japanese art, “animal caricature,” on our booth to promote our development capability as a Japanese corporation. It welcomed apparel buyers from China and all around the world, who were eager to learn about the company’s functional products and made-in-Japan goods.
August 2 and 3, 2018 (Tokyo)
September 4, 2018 (Fukuyama)
September 28 and 29, 2018 (Osaka)
This 33-year-old event sponsored by Shimada Shoji always receives a great deal of industry attention. Hi-G STOFF targets Japanese trading companies, apparel manufacturers, and suppliers (accessory and fabric manufacturers). We held this exhibition under the theme of “Old is Always New” to commemorate our 130th anniversary. The exhibition focused on our challenge of embarking upon a new stage and opening up markets for the next generation of business. We introduced our products by exhibiting end-user products to clearly show each item’s appeal and characteristics. Hi-G STOFF proved popular for its ability to meet the specific needs of visitors due to the separate exhibit categories including uniforms, sportswear, general clothing, casual wear, buttons, and items aimed at the ASEAN/China market.
Munich | February 3 to 6, 2019
For more than 40 years, ISPO MUNICH has been one of the leading trade fairs for sporting goods, attracting in excess of 2,500 exhibitors presenting their products to more than 80,000 visitors. Shimada Shoji has been taking part in ISPO MUNICH since 2007, and this year’s fair saw Shimada Shoji’s corporate mascots, the eye-catching TRIM MONSTERS®, in every corner of the booth. Adorning the walls, product pamphlets, and commemorative stickers given out to visitors, the TRIM MONSTERS® delighted visitors and proved to be the ideal ambassadors for the light and sporty products Shimada Shoji had on display.
Düsseldorf | October 17 to 20, 2017
Held in Germany (Düsseldorf), this is one of the biggest trade fairs in the world under the theme of “safety, security, and health at work.” Not only uniform apparels and accessories, but also a broad spectrum of products at workplaces such as machines and office supplies are exhibited. This was our second time at the event; and we exhibited sports-related trims, which are our strong point, and also trims from our overseas network. We focused on cord stoppers, tapes, and functional items. Our products received great attention for not just their functions, but also for their comfort and good design.
We have set up showrooms at our head office in Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong to display samples of the secondary materials and products we handle. They are also places to disseminate up-to-date trend information that we have proposed at exhibitions in Japan and elsewhere.
We can accommodate business discussions while showing actual products, and we make effective proposals for new products.
